What is the IB Diploma Programme?
An international education for future academic success
Internationally recognised education
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a rigorous and internationally recognised upper secondary education for students aged 16–19, preparing them for university studies in Sweden and worldwide.
Instruction in English
Instruction is primarily conducted in English. Certain components, such as Swedish Language A and parts of CAS and student support, may be offered in Swedish, making the programme accessible to both Swedish and international students.
More than a traditional high school programme
The IB develops critical thinking, analytical skills and independent learning. Students learn to take responsibility for their studies, manage a demanding workload and make connections across subject areas.
Preparation for university and beyond
The IB Diploma Programme is well suited for motivated and curious students seeking an academically challenging education with a strong international perspective. The IB Diploma is highly regarded by universities worldwide and provides excellent preparation for further studies. In addition to subject courses, three core components are included:
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
In Theory of Knowledge, students are encouraged to reflect on how knowledge is created, used and evaluated. The course develops critical thinking and the ability to consider questions from multiple perspectives.
Extended Essay (EE)
The Extended Essay is an independent research project in which students explore a subject of personal interest. The essay prepares students for academic writing and studies at higher education level.
CAS – Creativity, Activity, Service
CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) provides opportunities for development through creative expression, physical activity and community engagement. These components foster responsibility, collaboration and personal growth.
