In the scenic surroundings of Solbacka, a new IB upper secondary school is planned to open – a school where academic excellence meets a safe and inspiring learning environment. Solbacka Upper Secondary School will offer the IB programme with a modern and inclusive pedagogical approach, inspired by successful schools such as Campus Manilla and Ebba Braheskolan.

SThe school will be housed in existing premises with a long educational heritage, where classrooms, a sports hall, library and boarding facilities are already in place. With care and thoughtful adaptation, the buildings will be restored to create a modern learning environment. Boarding accommodation will be offered to students from across Sweden, as well as to international families seeking a nature-based education with high academic standards.

An investment for the entire region

The establishment of Solbacka Upper Secondary School represents a significant investment for Gnesta Municipality, Stjärnhov and the wider Södermanland region.
Once fully developed, the school will employ between 80 and 100 people, making Solbacka Upper Secondary School the largest private employer in the municipality.
This will create new job opportunities in education, administration, services and boarding operations, contributing to positive development in the local community.

Today, Gnesta Municipality does not have its own upper secondary school, which means that many young people must commute long distances for their education.
With Solbacka Upper Secondary School, a new opportunity is created for students in Gnesta and neighbouring municipalities to access high-quality education closer to home.
The school will also attract students from other parts of Sweden as well as international families, strengthening Gnesta’s appeal as an educational hub.

Beyond education, the school generates broader societal benefits by contributing to the labour market, local business and municipal development.
More families will be able to remain in the region, companies can recruit locally, and Södermanland as a whole will be strengthened as a competitive and attractive place to live and work.

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

Instruction in English

Instruction is primarily conducted in English. Certain components, such as Swedish Language A and parts of CAS and student support, may be offered in Swedish, making the programme accessible to both Swedish and international students.

More than a traditional high school programme

The IB develops critical thinking, analytical skills and independent learning. Students learn to take responsibility for their studies, manage a demanding workload and make connections across subject areas.

Preparation for university and beyond
